anatomy mantle cross-section tannin cells tangentially length

unit: µm

The dimensions of tannin cells are extremely variable depending upon their distance from the root tip, and whether they are formed by the outer row or by the second row of root cells, and also regarding the tree genus involved in the formation of ectomycorrhizae. Up to date, only very limited information is available about the influence of the fungus on the shape of tannin cells. When measurements are taken, they should at least include 30-50 individual values; exceptional values should be indicated separately, for example: (30-)45- 70(-100) µm; the values in parentheses stand for exceptions. (For the determination process with DEEMY the exceptional values cannot be included.) Possibly, this feature can be disregarded.
