Laticifers can be recognized either by their thicker diameter and their deviating mode of ramification and/or by their content of latex droplets. Dependent upon the Lactarius species, laticifers can vary regarding their distribution in the mantle. In order to discern the main distribution of the laticifers, the mantle must be focused through consecutively from the outer parts towards the inner mantle layer or vice versa. The highest magnification has to be applied.
