A few species of ectomycorrhizae can definitely have some of their rhizomorphs growing out over the very tip into the soil; these rhizomorphs appear occasionally to prolong the mycorrhizal tip, and may be sometimes as thick as the mycorrhiza itself. In addition to those rhizomorphs, some with other types of origin can occur as well.
