Morphology Morphology of sclerotia
Sclerotia can often be clearly associated with the mycorrhizal mantle (A) and/or with the rhizomorphs, either laterally (B) or intercalarily (C). They can even be formed around mycorrhizae (D), but sometimes they lay rather independently from the mycorrhizal structures (E). Particularly in the latter case, the soil around the mycorrhizae must be checked for sclerotia. The frequency at least of those of Cenococcum appears to be influenced either by the soil type or by strain-specific differences. |
