Margins show even at higher magnifications a few hyphae only growing off from the rhizomorph. Although this feature can also be dependent upon whether the cleaning procedure was done cautiously enough, rhizomorphs of several mycorrhizae appear smooth. A smooth appearance does of course not apply as to the finest branches; therefore thicker rhizomorphs or thicker parts must be considered.
